Nestled on a gorgeous,
serene property, this cottage-styled eclectic
home became too small for the owners. Rather than
move, they decided to expand and update it.
To accommodate their taste, we
had to insure both the interior and exterior design
blended with the existing home. The addition consisted
of the following elements:
- New master suite
- A remodeled kitchen including
the addition of an eating area. This room features
floor to ceiling windows to visually incorporate
the pristine landscaped rear yard.
- Addition of a 3 car garage
- Addition of a laundry room
- Addition of a screened porch
Interestingly, the owners requested
we incorporate a very old railing and balusters
acquired from an old downtown building. During
normal stairway construction, stairs are constructed
first then the railing and balusters. In this
case, the stairs were designed to fit the angle
of the railing… in essence, constructing
the staircase backwards.
Secondly, the owners requested
we incorporate a stained glass window onto the
front of the home. To do so, we had to custom
design a window to house the stained glass.
Additionally it was necessary
to custom build the cupola to help offset the
front of the home.
Custom built wood brackets were
incorporated under the large overhang to match
the existing home.
Garage doors were custom built
to achieve a carriage-house look.
The exterior siding consists of
individually installed cedar shingles. The last
row of shingles was custom sculpted by the owners
and installed by our team.
The home’s interior, features
maple flooring, granite countertops and custom
maple cabinetry. |
