Project Objectives:
- To construct a home that blends
amongst the smaller, older homes in the immediate
surrounding area.
- Precision placement of the
home on the extensive wooded lot, to minimize
destruction of the natural environment.
- The home’s interior had
to be defined by warmth and functionality to
accommodate entertaining and relaxation.
- Inclusion of intricate design
details without sacrificing their budget.
Project Details:
This project involved the construction
of a 1 1/2 story home featuring Cape Cod accents
and a first floor master suite… thus fulfilling
objective #1.
Respecting the owner’s request
to preserve the natural landscape, we were able
to save all but one tree during the entire construction
phase…thus fulfilling objective #2.
To provide a warm cozy feel, we
opted to exclude high ceilings and stairs off
the foyer and living room. This floor plan enables
guests to enter via the foyer, directly into the
family room and other entertainment areas.
The kitchen showcases solid maple
cabinetry with pull-out shelving and upscale appliances.
A lovely bar area was added to afford guests a
place to relax while meals were being prepared.
The breakfast area is separated from the kitchen
and family room with open cabinetry, thus creating
an open/airy functional floor plan.
The family room features a stepped
ceiling with crown molding and concealed rope
lighting. Combined with a lovely gas fireplace,
this room exudes ambience.
The first floor master suite and
master bath are the envy of most. The bedroom
contains soaring ceilings and a diamond shaped
window, allowing the sun’s rays to glisten
upon the lovely bedding ensemble. The large walk-in
closet and adjacent closet include built-in organizers.
The master bath features marble countertops, heated
floors, whirlpool tub, large shower with a steam
unit, body sprays and a speaker tied to the home
entertainment system… beauty, warmth and
functionality.
Ceiling configurations define
each of the 3 upstairs bedrooms. Bedroom 1 was
designed to “house” the home office.
This room features a sitting room and staircase
that leads to the garage. This floor plan provides
privacy and access to the office without disturbing
the “home.” The remaining 2 upstairs
bedrooms are utilized as guestrooms.
Lighting is utilized extensively
and features recessed, low voltage and rope lighting.
Electrically, the home is prepped for future wireless
home automation and an emergency generator. 13
separate audio speaker zones run throughout the
home.
The owners requested a maintenance
free exterior but disliked vinyl siding. We suggested
cement fiber siding which provides the look and
feel of wood siding with the maintenance free
aspect of vinyl siding. To incorporate intricate
details yet maintain a specific budget, we utilized
medium priced finish material, searched for the
best discounts and employed our best subcontractors.
The results of our efforts fulfilled objectives
#3 and #4. Our job was now complete.
